Geoff Blackburn

who used to score for Leicestershire 1st XI (1985-94 and then the 2nd XI), died on 5th December 2013 – we are grateful to Graham York for passing on this sad news.

Mike Snook (formerly Yorkshire 2) sent the following memory of working with him: Thank you for the sad news about Geoff Blackburn. He moved from the Firsts to score for Leicestershire Seconds and I remember one occasion when were scoring together at the now defunct Bradford Park Avenue. Play was abandoned for the day and Geoff got out his little list, prepared beforehand, to discover there was a hostelry in the neighbourhood which he had not visited previously. He was overjoyed when I was able to drop him on its doorstep as it was on my way home. Leaving him to get on with his list, I discovered the next morning that he was able to visit a further five or six pubs on his list during the late afternoon and evening……………… Happy days!

Andrew Jones (formerly Middlesex 2) remembers him with the following tribute: Thank you for letting us know about Geoff Blackburn – let’s hope there are lots of pubs on the other side. In case you did not know Geoff was very keen on visiting pubs where he had a drink in each one and got the landlord to sign he had been there. When I last saw Geoff I think said he was up 5,000.
